Children Available
Children range in age from newborns (youngest age at time of placement 6-10 months) up to 14 years.

Due to recent increased interest in Taiwan infant adoption Shiloh Adoptions can only process healthy infant adoptions for families from the state of Kansas. We anticipate that this will open again to other states once the high volume of dossiers for healthy infants begins to be met.

Shiloh adoptions is able to process dossiers for older children, minor correctible special needs, other special needs and waiting children regardless of state of residence.

Sibling groups are available at times and may be requested. Gender of the child may also be selected by adoptive parents. Children that are older are not always considered special needs unless they have been hard to place. There are also children who have medical special needs, ranging from mild and correctable to serious life-long needs.

In the case of infants, the birth mothers are often (but not always) involved in the selection of the adoptive family. In most situations the birth mother has received good prenatal care. The baby will receive excellent pediatric care after birth, including well-baby checkups and immunizations. Some background information on birthparents may also be provided. Once a birthmother has chosen a family for her baby, photos and updates are sent to the family during the process and the family can send photo albums and small gifts to help prepare the child.

A family that has been given and has accepted a referral, that has not involved the birthmother in the process, is also given photos and updates regularly until the child is able to come home. The family can also send photos and gifts to the child to help prepare the child. This is especially helpful when an older child is adopted..

Requirements for Adoptive Parents
  • Parents are required to be at least 25 years old.
With older child adoptions, prospective parents must be at least 20 years older than the child being adopted.
  • Parents under age 45 tend to be preferred for babies, but exceptions are sometimes made.
  • Parents should be married for at least 5 years.
Smaller families are usually preferred for newborns.
  • Income requirements for Taiwan are the same as for the current U.S. CIS poverty guidelines.
Travel/Time Commitment
Referrals for healthy infants vary since birthmothers are usually involved in reviewing parents' files and choosing the family for her baby. The average wait for a healthy infant is 18-24 months.

Older children, special needs children and sibling groups can often be matched in a shorter time frame.

If adopting a through the Waiting Child program the process goes very quickly.

The court process in Taiwan tends to average 4-6 months after referral and acceptance of the referral by the parents. This can also be shortened in some cases where there is a medical special need. Travel to Taiwan requires a 4-7 day stay.
