Domestic Adoptions through Shiloh Adoptions occur when a birth mother chooses adoption for her child. Often, but not always, a birth mother desires to be involved in the process of selecting an adoptive family. Shiloh offers both open and closed adoptions based on the preferences of the birthmother and the adoptive parents.
Children Available
Most children who become available for adoption through the Shiloh domestic program are infants. Shiloh will allow the client(s) to choose the gender, race and age of the child/ren they wish to adopt.
Requirements for Adopting Parents
- Age of the adoptive parents will be considered on a case by case basis.
- Couples must be married at least 2 years.
- Adoptive parents will need to have an approved home study, application and contract on file with Shiloh in order to be considered for a domestic adoption.
Travel/Time Commitment
The wait is dependent upon the presentation of a birth mother. A Shiloh representative will advise the client of the number of prospective adoptive parents currently waiting for a referral. Because adoptive parents are typically chosen by the birthmother, the agency is not able to predict the length of time a particular client family may wait to receive a referral. A client's flexibility with regard to race, age and gender will result in a quicker referral time.
Adoption Expenses
- Application Fee is $200 (non-refundable)
- $1,200 is payable at the time the contract is accepted by the agency. This fee is for the home study conducted by our social worker. At this time, you will also be placed on a waiting list until you are selected by a birthmother as a prospective adoptive family.
- In addition to the home study fee, there is an agency fee in the amount of $5,500 to $10,000.00. The first half of the agency fee will be due to Shiloh when you are chosen by a birthmother and is not refundable. Once the birth parent(s) has relinquished the child, the second half of the agency fee is payable.
- This fee includes, but is not limited to, the following services:
- Time and expenses involved in communicating with the client(s) regarding domestic adoption procedures.
- Time and expenses involved in counseling and supporting the birth parent(s) up to $500.00.
- Providing the client(s) with the list of required documents for the completion of a domestic adoption.
- Reviewing all documents and legalizations.
- Communicating any information pertaining to the adoption of the child, including current medical information and photographs when available.
- Working with the client home study agency and state authorities to assure all documents are in compliance with your state.
- Monitoring post-placement reports as required by your state.
- Post Placement Reports (minimum of three at 1 month, 6 months and 12 months) $200 for each report. The number of reports will vary on a case by case basis according to regulations set forth by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
- Attorney fees to finalize the adoption will vary depending on the attorney chosen by the client. Attorney fees will be paid directly to the attorney and are not included in the agency fee. The agency is available to assist you in locating an attorney in your area.
- Depending on the financial status of the birth mother the family may need to provide an expense account for allowable expenses (i.e. food, clothing, utilities, shelter, transportation, legal services related to the adoption, medical or mental health services, etc.)
